Termite Control

Termite Control in Los Angeles, CA

Fumigation is the most common method for treating termites in Los Angeles, California. While it is typically effective, it does come with drawbacks. Tenting your home is a major disruption to your lifestyle and forces you to spend additional money on accommodations until treatment is complete. You’ll also need to ensure all of your medications and food are completely sealed to avoid contamination. What’s more, fumigation is not always effective against subterranean termites, as they can simply burrow into the ground and return later.

Fortunately, Kilter Termite and Pest Control has a treatment solution that is much more convenient than fumigation and is proven to be effective.

Are Termites Common in Los Angeles?

Yes, termites are common in Los Angeles due to the region's warm climate, which provides ideal conditions for their survival. Both subterranean and drywood termites are prevalent in the area. This frequent occurrence of termite activity necessitates regular inspections and preventive measures to protect properties from potential damage.

What’s the Difference between Subterranean and Drywood Termites?

Subterranean and drywood termites are two common types of termites that cause significant damage to wooden structures. Subterranean termites live in the soil and require contact with moisture to survive, typically building elaborate underground nests connected to above-ground food sources via mud tubes.

In contrast, drywood termites do not require soil contact or high moisture levels and can infest dry, untreated wood directly, living entirely within the wood they consume. These differences influence their habits, detection methods, and the strategies used for their control.

Despite these differences, the Los Angeles termite control team at Kilter Termite and Pest Control is able to provide treatment solutions that resolve infestations for both subterranean and drywood termites.

How to Know if Your Los Angeles Property Has Termites

Termites are destructive pests that can cause significant damage to wooden structures if left undetected. Identifying the signs of a termite infestation early can help mitigate damage and prevent costly repairs. Below are some of the most common signs to look out for.

Signs of Termites:

  • Mud Tubes: Subterranean termites construct mud tubes on walls, foundations, or other structures to travel between their nest and food sources.
  • Frass: Drywood termites produce frass, which are small, pellet-like droppings that accumulate near infested wood.
  • Hollow Sounding Wood: Tapping on wood infested by termites may produce a hollow sound due to internal damage.
  • Blistering or Darkening Wood: Wood surfaces may appear blistered or darkened as a result of termite activity beneath the surface.
  • Discarded Wings: After swarming, termites shed their wings, which can often be found near windowsills, doors, or other entry points.
  • Sagging Floors or Ceilings: Severe termite damage can cause structural elements to sag or become uneven.
  • Visible Termites: Seeing live termites, especially during a swarm, is a clear indicator of an infestation.
  • Peeling Paint: Paint on walls or wood surfaces may peel or bubble, resembling water damage, due to termites tunneling just below the surface.

If you notice any of the above issues, don't hesitate to contact our termite control team in Los Angeles.

  • There are a million pest control companies, why should we choose Kilter?

We are always one of the top-rated companies in the service industry plus we have over 30 years of experience solving Southern CA’s unique pest control issues. Our low impact products and services are highly effective and are available at great prices, which is very important these days. Our commitment to customer care and fast service is why we are one of the highest rated and fastest growing pest control companies in the USA.  All of that plus we are a one call pest company, that means no matter what the pest issue is – we can solve it.

  • Why Quarterly service instead of Monthly or Bi-Monthly?

Our pest control chemicals and the barrier our technicians create generally last for 90-120 days.  Monthly or every other month service is normally overkill.  No need to spray extra chemicals around your home and pay for extra serivce if it’s not needed plus our Quarterly service plan comes with free services calls in-between visits so if you need us earlier then expected, just call us and we will come treat for no charge?

  • How does the Quarterly plan work?

On your first visit we will treat the interior and exterior of your home, eliminating most pests you have in and around your home. During that initial visit we also create a barrier around your home. This will allow the treatment to work on all the pests trapped inside the barrier and stop any new pests from getting in.  After that initial visit we will come out quarterly to maintain the barrier around your home. We normally only need to treat the interior once per year and the exterior barrier every 3 months. You may see an uptick in activity the first few days after each treatment as the pests try to get away but after a week you should be pest free.  If you need us, call us as our service calls are free.

  • What is your warranty?

All pest services come with a full warranty and free service calls in between your scheduled visits. Even our One time service has a 30 day warranty.
