Frequently Asked Questions

Are Rodents a Problem in Newport Beach?

In addition to surviving outdoors, rodents have made their way into resident homes and establishments causing increased high in-demand year-round services from the Orange County Vector Control District (OCVD). With a growing population of over 2 million and 30% having rats or rodent control issues, the demand for control is so high that OCVD cannot keep up with the service requests. Fortunately, Kilter Termite & Pest Control is here to help!

Are Rodents Dangerous?

Yes, rodents are dangerous as they can pose serious health and safety risks in addition to damaging your peace of mind. They spread diseases like Hantavirus, Salmonella, and Leptospirosis through their droppings, urine, and saliva, and can contaminate food and surfaces. Additionally, rodents often chew on wires, which increases the risk of electrical fires. Prompt action to address a rodent problem is essential to protect your health and property.

How Quickly Do Rats and Mice Multiply?

Rats and mice reproduce rapidly, making it easy for a small infestation to grow out of control. A single female mouse can produce up to 10 litters per year, with each litter containing 5-12 pups. Similarly, female rats can have 6-8 litters annually, with 7-14 pups per litter. Since these rodents reach reproductive maturity in just a few weeks, their populations can double or triple in a matter of months, emphasizing the need for swift pest control measures.

Have Questions?

Our Team Has The Answers.
  • To ensure that the treatment is being done properly, the homeowner should observe the treatment process. Unless the homeowner is chemically sensitive, there should not be any adverse health problems associated with a treatment done correctly. Ask questions of the pest control technicians. Keep track of how long it takes them to do the job.
  • Termites move randomly through the soil searching for a source of food (wood). They do not have the ability to know exactly where your house is. So, if your next-door neighbor treats his home for termites, your house isn’t automatically the termites’ next lunch. No, your house does not need to be treated; but, if there are active termite infestations in your neighborhood, it is a good idea to have it inspected.
  • The best thing you can do is to be involved and observant in the inspection process. For example if you request an inspection and the inspector doesn’t inspect obvious areas such as your garage, attic, basement, etc., then you may need to consult an additional company. Don’t be afraid to ask questions.

  • Fumigation process normally takes 3 days and 2 nights unless there is a holiday or weekends or if special arrangements are made. Kilter’s Stay in Your Home termite treatment requires no leaving your home at all.
